WHAT TO DO IF YOU LOSE OR DAMAGE YOUR TRAIN TICKET?

Indian Railways is often referred to as the lifeline of the country because millions of passengers travel through it every day to reach their destinations. Indian Railways operates nearly 13,000 trains daily, with the first train in India running in 1853, pulled by locomotives named Sahib, Sultan, and Sindh. With over 160 years of history, Indian Railways has become an integral part of the nation's transportation network.

Indian Railways covers a network of more than 68,000 kilometers and has over 8,000 railway stations, with the numbers steadily increasing. The railway network also includes numerous bridges and tunnels, with ongoing construction projects like several tunnels in Jammu. Indian Railways' running trains play a crucial role in India's economic development.

With these statistics, Indian Railways boasts the fourth largest railway network in the world, continuously expanding its reach. Recently, a railway station was even built in Sikkim. You must have traveled on Indian Railways at some point. However, what would you do if you lost your ticket during the journey? Don't worry; you can find the solution to this problem through the information provided in this article.

Charges for a Duplicate Ticket:

If Indian Railways issues you a duplicate ticket, it won't be free; you'll have to pay for it. However, the railway sets a limited amount for this charge. Additionally, you'll be given a fee receipt by the railway.

Payment Details:

You don't need to pay an extra fee for this. If you are traveling in sleeper class or second class, you can get a duplicate ticket for Rs. 50. However, the charge may vary for other classes.

Other Class Charges:

Indian Railways has set different amounts for duplicate tickets in various classes. If you are traveling in a class other than sleeper or second class and your ticket is lost, you'll have to pay Rs. 100 for a duplicate ticket.

What to Do if the Ticket Tears:

During train travel, it often happens that the original ticket gets torn for some reason or is damaged by children. If you experience such an incident while traveling by train, you can pay 25% of your journey fare to get a duplicate ticket. However, if you have a waiting list ticket, you don't need to get a duplicate ticket. You can inform the Ticket Examiner (TTE) about it because waiting list tickets do not guarantee a seat. In such cases, you can only travel in the train coach. A duplicate ticket is only issued if a confirmed ticket gets damaged.
